Introduction to Characterisation

For 11 to 13-year-olds

This programme will teach students fundamentals of characterisation in order to craft and develop compelling, multi-dimensional characters. By mastering the basics of character development, students will be able to produce interesting and varied characters to enhance their story plot.

This programme is available only to students studying outside of Singapore. Class timings are in SG/MY time zone. For students in Singapore, visit The Learning Lab Singapore.

Programme Highlights

In this programme, students will be exposed to numerous scenarios where they will learn how to apply characterisation techniques to describe a character. Students will get a chance to hone their creative writing skills as they brainstorm on different aspects of what makes an interesting character.
In each lesson, students will be introduced to one characterisation technique and will try their hand at developing a character using the techniques taught. At the end of the workshop, they would have written two full compositions that incorporate the characterisation they have learnt.

Students will:
-learn the fundamentals to characterisation
-learn the 5 different parts to developing a multi-dimensional character in a story
-identify the different aspects of characterisation in a protagonist or antagonist
