## Young Problem Solvers’ Series

*For 8 to 10-year-olds*

Our programme focuses on developing a strong understanding of mathematical concepts and building problem-solving skills. This programme aims to prepare your child to progress further and take on more complex mathematical concepts.

Over the course of 3 modules*, your child will be taught critical thinking and problem-solving skills through the use of the Singapore Model Method and other strategies, to tackle everything from the simplest equations to complex word problems.

** All 3 modules are part of the Young Problem Solvers’ Series and are available on a standalone basis. We do not require students to enroll in all 3 modules. However, to have a comprehensive knowledge of The Young Problem Solvers’ Series, students are encouraged to take all 3 modules.*

*This programme is available only to students studying outside of Singapore. Class timings are in SG/MY time zone. For students in Singapore, visit The Learning Lab Singapore.*

## For 8 to 10 year-olds

This module teaches students how to use the model method, a problem-solving tool central to Singapore Math, to organise and represent information in a math problem as a simple diagram. Students learn how to use this method to effectively break down problems systematically, making even complex problems easy to solve.

View DetailSolving word problems is an important basic skill in mathematics. Through word problems, students learn and understand math concepts using meaningful context. Students will be taught how to analyse problems, pick out keywords and identify the concepts. Students will also learn how to draw bars to represent quantities using the model method – a useful foundation to have before learning how to use letter symbols and formulate algebraic equations.

*For 11 to 13-year-olds*

Our programme focuses on developing a strong understanding of key mathematical concepts through deep learning and problem-solving techniques. This programme aims to build a strong foundation for the IGCSE examination.

Over the course of 3 modules*, your child will receive comprehensive notes or examples that are classified according to the concepts as a step-by-step approach to learning the fundamentals well. In addition, they will gain some exposure to exam-standard problems. Your child will also be taught a range of problem-solving strategies and learn how to choose the most efficient strategy to solve problems.

** All 3 modules are part of the Young Topical Builders’ Series and are available on a standalone basis. We do not require students to enroll in all 3 modules. However, to have a comprehensive knowledge of The Young Topical Builders’ Series, students are encouraged to take all 3 modules.*

## For 11 to 13 year-olds

This module targets to develop arithmetic precision in selected topics to help students sharpen their skills on manipulations of numbers and expressions, including linear algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities. In addition, students will learn the proportional relationships between quantities expressed as percentage, ratio and rates.

View DetailThis module covers key concepts in Geometry and Mensuration. For Geometry, students will learn to analyse and solve problems involving cardinal directions and application of angle properties. For Mensuration, students will learn about the measurement of geometric figures and their parameters such as length, volume and surface area. This programme aims to outline some key equations, calculations and the properties of various geometric shapes and figures.

View DetailThis module introduces the basic concepts of Linear Graphs and Coordinate geometry. The examples and questions provide a scaffold to help students see a connection between Algebra and Geometry through graphs of lines. This enables geometric problems to be solved algebraically and provides geometric insights into algebra. For Linear Graphs, students will learn how to plot coordinates, create straight line graphs and learn how to find the gradients to show the relationship between two variables. For Coordinate Geometry, students will learn about the Cartesian coordinate system how to read coordinates as well as some key formulae like the distance formula and midpoint formula etc.
